Matalan, a prominent UK retailer, has been serving customers for over three decades. Challenge:

The challenge for the project was to upgrade Matalan's epos operating systems from Windows 7 to Windows 10 while retaining their existing hardware, which was compatible for the transition. To achieve this, the team planned to replace the hard drives with SSD drives and perform the Windows 10 imaging on-site during the night. The goal was to complete the entire upgrade process swiftly and efficiently to ensure the store was fully operational and ready for trading before opening its doors to customers in the morning. The project required meticulous planning and execution to minimize any potential downtime and disruptions to the store's operations, providing a seamless transition to the upgraded system.

Solution:

As part of the solution, we undertook the Windows 10 deployment project across Matalan's sites in the North West and Midlands regions. In close collaboration with our agent, we meticulously planned each step to minimize any disruption to store operations.

Our team of expert engineers executed the project with utmost precision and efficiency. For larger sites, we deployed multiple engineers, while smaller locations were assigned a dedicated engineer. The process was carefully timed, and our engineers arrived just before store closing to initiate the upgrade. First, they backed up all existing data, de-commissioned the backoffice server, and then swiftly unpacked, set up, and configured the new backoffice server. Once the backoffice server was up and running seamlessly, our engineers proceeded to swap the hard drives with SSDs in the EPOS tills. Following this, the Windows 10 imaging process was initiated.

After completing the imaging and setting up all peripherals, our engineers conducted thorough testing to ensure flawless functionality of the tills and related systems. The rigorous testing phase ensured that everything was working optimally before the stores opened their doors to customers.
